The insured was a tenant at a warehouse park where it would store its product, computer hardware such as PCs, disk drives, monitors, etc. The warehouse park was guarded by a security company, hired by the landlord. A break-in occurred, and for 3 hours the thieves casually loaded more than 400 personal computers, 160 monitors and a printer onto a truck they had backed up to the rear loading dock door. Through an investigation into the security company’s internal procedures and records, it was also discovered that the guard on duty on the evening of the theft had completely failed to conduct his rounds. Armed with key investigative information, photographs and security camera footage the insurance carrier paid over 70% of the paid claim.
