While performing roofing services on the house of a cow rancher, a fire burned down the entire structure. The rancher’s insurance carrier paid in excess of $2.1 million dollars. The roofer naturally denied any liability for the loss. Through early investigation, however, the lawyers at Kramer Green were able to establish through eye witness testimony and expert corroboration, that one of the defendant’s workers had tossed a lit cigarette onto an area of wet tar. The tar caught fire and caused the extensive property damage. A lawsuit was immediately filed against the roofing company; and within six months following initial discovery the defendant settled the case for an amount in excess of $1.9 million.
